Every year several millions of tons of building rubble are produced. An efficient way of recycling concrete – the building material of the 20th and 21st century – does not yet exist. Researchers are working on new recycling methods, and with the aid of lightning bolts, they can break down the mixture of cement and aggregate into its components.

Sheikh Zayed Bridge by Zaha Hadid Architects

The UAE has a highly mobile society that requires a new route around the Gulf south shore, connecting the three Emirates together. In 1967 a steel arch bridge was built to connect the fledgling city of Abu Dhabi island to the mainland, followed by a second bridge built in the seventies, connecting downstream at the south side of Abu Dhabi Island. The location of the new (third) Gateway Crossing, close to the first bridge, is critical in the develop- ment and completion of the highway system. Conceived in an open setting, the bridge has the prospect of becoming a destination in itself and potential catalyst in the future urban growth of Abu Dhabi.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. As part of both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1, it connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County. The Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed during the year 1937, and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and California. Since its completion, the span length has been surpassed by eight other bridges. It still has the second longest suspension bridge main span in the United States, after the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in New York City. In 1999, it was ranked fifth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects

Background

FRPs or fibre-reinforced polymers are high in strength, lightweight and non-corrosive, and their effectiveness as externally bonded repair materials is now widely recognized. However because they are relatively new, and only limited work has been done on their performance in fires, they have not been used in buildings where fire safety is a critical design consideration

مقدمه:

تکنیک مقاوم سازی ستون های مسلح بتنی با استفاده از کامپوزیت های FRP به طور گسترده ای به جای پوشش نمودن به وسیله فولاد مورد کاربرد قرار گرفته است.در مقایسه با استفاده از تنگ ها و مارپیچ فولادی .تکنیک محصور سازی با استفاده از FRP قابلیت این را دارد که محصور شدگی را به صورت پیوسته برای تمام مقطع عرضی ستون تامین کنند.همچنین این موارد دارای خواص ذاتی مطلوبی (نسبت زیاد مقاومت به وزن و مقاومت بالا در برابر خوردگی و خنثی بودن الکترو مغناطیسی)هستند.به گونه ای که می توان در مقاوم سازی یا بازسازی اعضای بتنی به طور موفقیت امیزی از آنها بهره گرفت.رفتار FRP را نمی توان مانند پوشش فولاد (خاموت)در نظر گرفت.زیرا یک ماده الاستوپلاستیک است در حالی که الیاف FRP کاملا الاستیک می باشد.


بر طبق گزارش اداره فدرال بزرگراه های آمریکا هنگام بررسی پلها از نظر سازه ای به دلیل پوشش کم بتن ، طراحی ضیعف ، عدم مهارت کافی هنگام اجرا و سایر عوامل همانند شرایط آب و هوایی سبب ایجاد ترک در بتن و خوردگی آرماتور های فولادی شده است.
